Five minutes that save you a headache:
- The shutter count: it’s the body’s odometer. Ask for it, and compare it with the camera’s age.
- The lens against the light: no dust, no threads, no play in the rings.
- A photo of a white wall at a small aperture: spots on the image give away dust on the sensor.
- Battery and charger, and a memory card to test recording.
