Apple Account signed out and Find My iPad off, in front of you. If setup asks for the previous owner’s Apple Account, it’s still linked to them: don’t take it.
A grey image in full screen. If you see stains or the shadow of icons, the screen has burn-in.
Battery: charge it for a while. If it heats up or drains fast, plan on replacing the battery.
Wi-Fi, the cameras, the speakers and charging.
